Imagine bringing the pieces of your expert knowledge together into an empowering learning experience - a learning experience that blends your unique expertise into a powerful concoction that can create true transformation in others.

That's what I call Course Alchemy.

But, how do you do that? Here 5 course creation tips to help you.

I've been in the business of learning design for a long time. One thing I've seen in the online course industry is quick and dirty courses that aren't based on good learning principles.

These courses are not necessarily made with the learning experience in mind, which means people rarely finish them.

So, what are good learning principles and how can you create a course that people will want to finish?

I've narrowed them down to five:

1. Narrow your idea.

No one wants to complete a course that's so broad that they walk away asking 'what did I even learn?' What is at least one specific skill or piece of knowledge that learners will walk away with that will change their life? Then teach that!

2. Know your learner.

If you're teaching to everyone, then you're teaching to no one. Knowing your learner means that you create a course that is relevant to them. This means engagement, retention, and satisfaction.

3. Write your course purpose statement.

Purpose is everything! It's the anchor of your whole course. It's why it exists and why someone will actually take the step to do it. Ensure that your course purpose is clear, concise, and consistently captured throughout your course.

4. Write your course learning outcomes.

Choose 4-6 things that your learners will be able to know and do by the end of your course that they couldn't do before they started. Then base your lessons around providing the knowledge and skills for them do just that.

5. Map your structure.

The way your course is structured will determine how it flows. You want to ensure that your course content equips your learners with the knowledge they need to achieve the course outcomes. You also want to ensure that your content flows logically from one piece of learning to the next. Essentially, you want to take your learner on a journey.
